It was a great experience. Very professional, outstanding customer care, skillful, very patient and he talked to me through the whole procedure. Dr. was concerned about my comfortability, and offered music selections of my choice. I was super nervous, and didn’t feel a thing. Hands down the best dental experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if my child's permanent tooth is knocked out?

Find the tooth and rinse it gently in cool water. (Do not scrub or clean it with soap — use only water!) If possible, replace the tooth in the socket immediately and hold it there with clean gauze or a wash cloth. If you can't put the tooth back in the socket, place the tooth in a clean container with cold milk, saliva or water. Call your dentist immediately. The faster you act, the better your chances of saving the tooth.

What should I do if my child's baby tooth is knocked out?

Contact our office as soon as possible. The baby tooth should not be replanted because of the potential for subsequent damage to the developing permanent tooth.

What if a tooth is chipped or fractured?

Contact your dentist immediately. Quick action can save the tooth, prevent infection and reduce the need for extensive dental treatment. Rinse the mouth with water and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling if the lip also was injured. If you can find the broken tooth fragment, place it in cold milk or water and bring it with you to the dental office.

What about a severe blow to the head or jaw fracture?

You need immediate medical attention. Keep in mind that an emergency medical team might be able to reach you faster than you can get to the hospital. A severe head injury can be life-threatening.

What if my child has a toothache?

Call our office immediately. Over-the-counter children's pain medication, dosed according to your child's weight and age, might ease the symptoms. You may apply a cold compress or ice wrapped in a cloth to the face in the area of the pain, but do not put heat or aspirin on the sore area.

How can I alleviate tooth pain at home before seeing an emergency dentist?

While home remedies are not a replacement for professional dental care, you can:

  • Rinse your mouth with warm saltwater.
  • Apply a cold compress to the affected area.
  • Take over-the-counter pain relievers (follow label instructions).
  • Use topical oral pain relief gels or ointments.

However, always consult with your dentist for guidance and avoid applying aspirin directly to the gums.

Are broken braces considered a dental emergency?

While a slightly loose bracket might not be an immediate emergency, sharp or protruding wires can cause injury to your mouth and should be addressed promptly. If you're experiencing discomfort or injury from your braces, contact your orthodontist or an emergency dentist.

Is emergency dentistry more expensive than regular dental care?

Costs for emergency dental care can vary based on the severity of the issue and required treatments. While some emergency services may cost more due to the immediacy and complexity, many dental insurance plans cover emergency treatments. It's always advisable to discuss potential costs with your dentist or insurance provider.

Can dental abscesses wait for a regular appointment?

No. Dental abscesses are serious infections that can spread and lead to life-threatening complications. If you suspect you have an abscess (you may notice a painful, pimple-like swelling on your gum), you should seek emergency dental care immediately.

How can I avoid dental emergencies?

While not all dental emergencies are preventable, you can:

  • Wear mouthguards during sports activities.
  • Avoid chewing hard candies, ice, or other hard foods.
  • Not use your teeth to cut or open objects.
  • Maintain regular dental check-ups and cleanings to detect and address potential issues early.

Is bleeding after a dental procedure considered an emergency?

Some minor bleeding can be expected after certain dental procedures, such as extractions. However, if the bleeding is heavy, persistent, or accompanied by severe pain, it's important to contact your dentist immediately.

How quickly should I see an emergency dentist?

The sooner, the better. With many dental emergencies, timely intervention can make the difference between saving or losing a tooth. If you're experiencing a dental emergency, contact an emergency dentist right away.
